TRAINING: As always, two or three training sessions per day and a bit of everything, so we get everything covered during the week.
Thoughts on opponent, Ryan LaFlare? LaFlare is a very tough, well-conditioned, yet also technical, athlete. Very good wrestler, southpaw like I am, and good ground game with ever improving striking. He keeps a good rhythm and likes to put pressure on. He is undefeated for a reason and I think he is a very tough guy who could very well be in the top 10 already.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I did Judo when I was a kid, and I also did kung fu and karate when I was a teenager. After that I started training BJJ. I’ve been involved with martial arts since I was a child.
What ranks and titles have you held? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. My main titles in BJJ are three-time World Cup champion, two-time World Champion, Pan American champion 2006, ADCC champion 2007, ADCC 2nd place in 2005, Brazilian champion, 7x state champion, 4x Brazilian team champion.
Do you have any heroes? Rickson Gracie
What is your favorite technique? Submit my opponent without him hurting me or me hurting him.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? A dream
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I did finish my college in 2001. I have degree in journalism.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was always teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
