Biography

TRAINING:I train everyday at 10 am, alternating striking and grappling days. My second practice of the day is usually in the evening, where I hit mitts, Dutch drill, grapple, or do bag work. I trained in Denver for about three weeks of this camp with Team Elevation. I also got a chance to train at Duane Ludwig’s gym during that time.

When and why did you start training for fighting? In 2008 I started to train with Eric Larkin and some of the other wrestlers in the area and it just led to fighting. I fell in love with the competition and trying to improve every day.

What ranks and titles have you held? KOTC 135 champion, WFF 145 champion, 145 Coalition of Combat champion. I'm a blue belt in jiu-jitsu but have a wrestling background. I wrestled at Arizona State and the University of Northern CO.

Do you have any heroes? My dad

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means everything. It means all my hard work and dedication has gotten me to the point where I can showcase my skills. This is my world and I will work harder than any other 135-pound fighter to be the best. My family and fighting for the UFC are my life.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Went to Arizona State and Northern Colorado and did not graduate, but will finish my degree in this upcoming year.

What was your job before you started fighting? Wrestling coach, which I still do, and construction work.

Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Finished my last three opponents, defended my KOTC belt twice with two finishes and won my only fight in Strikeforce.

Favorite grappling technique: Ground-and-pound

Favorite striking technique: Flying knee
