Biography
DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY OF TRAINING: This has been, by far, the best training camp that I have ever had. In the mornings, my strength and conditioning coach, Bill Breed, has me doing a warm-up run for 2.5 miles (7-12mph) followed by circuit training (45 min) that consists of combining cardio and strength. The circuit is different each day so this has really pushed me into the best shape I have ever been in. In the afternoon/evening I am either working my boxing/kick boxing or wrestling/jiu jitsu. I spar at least three times a week 6-8, 5 minute rounds. At night I do more conditioning, and on the weekends I run hills or stairs with a weighted vest.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I met (then UFC Light Heavyweight Champ) Tito Ortiz here in Des Moines about five years ago. He was here doing a seminar. He attended a show where I was boxing, and after the fight he congratulated me on the win and asked if I had ever done MMA. I told him that I had wanted to, but didn't know anyone who trained and didn't know any techniques. He invited me to the seminar, and showed me some stuff. That's where I met Josh Neer. Josh and I started training together, and the rest is history...
What ranks and titles have you held? Iowa Challenge Welterweight Champion
Do you have any heroes? My Mother, and anyone who fights for what they believe in.
What is your favorite technique? Any form of victory is sweet, but I prefer to strike.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Although it sounds cliché, it truly is a dream come true. I am one of the biggest fans out there, so getting to compete on the same stage as these guys means the world to me.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes – haven’t graduated yet.
What was your job before you started fighting? Portfolio Manager/Finance
