Biography

TRAINING: Same training I have every fight. Getting at least three training sessions in a day, pushing myself as hard as I can, and making sure I cover every aspect of my mixed martial arts game. But this camp I did have to bring in southpaws in every form - wrestlers, boxers, MMA fighters, and jiu-jitsu/grapplers.

Thoughts on opponent, Tom Lawlor? He’s a veteran in the sport and in the UFC, and has been around since the early Ultimate Fighter series. He comes to the cage ready to fight every fight and is always prepared for a war. Whether he makes it pretty or ugly, he goes all out.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started fighting in 2012 after graduating college and training to try out for the Olympic wrestling team with Ben Askren. He persuaded me into the sport of mixed martial arts instead.

What ranks and titles have you held? TUF 19 light heavyweight winner, XFL light heavyweight champ, blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu

Do you have any heroes?
Warren Sapp and Muhammad Ali

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC?
I’m one step closer to my goal / dream of being the world champion.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater with my degree in Business Administration. And I have an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Lincoln College.
What was your job before you started fighting? College wrestling coach and a Supervisor at Holland Trucking and Freight

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition?
Two-time college wrestling All-American, once in Junior College (6th) and once in NCAA D3 (2nd)

Favorite grappling technique:
Using my wrestling hip pressure to control top positions

Favorite striking technique:
Using my reach
